Mikiko Mochi Donuts

Mikiko Mochi Donuts

Mikiko Mochi Donuts may resemble a donut in appearance, but beneath the surface lies a textural experience. Naturally gluten-free and baked instead of fried.

It’s no secret; Portland loves donuts. But you have never had a donut like this. Mikiko Mochi Donuts may resemble a donut in appearance, but beneath the surface lies a textural experience. Naturally gluten-free and baked instead of fried, Mikiko Mochi Donuts are made from mochiko, a flour made from sticky rice, and are available in a wide variety of flavors ranging from classic to fanciful. Owner and Portland native Alex McGillivray has been cooking in the city since 2005, from humble beginnings at Oaks Park to developing an award-winning healthier yakisoba noodle now served in school districts throughout Oregon. His partner Emily Mikiko Strocher comes from a Japanese-American family with deep roots in Northern California, and every holiday season the family comes together for Mochitsuki, a traditional Japanese celebration revolving around the labor-intensive production of mochi. Over the past year, Mikiko has evolved from pop-ups to delivery, and now into grocery. Thanks to the support of our wonderful customers and a bit of luck, our little entrepreneurial dream is quickly becoming reality. We hope to continue to grow together in 2021 and spread the joy of mochi donuts throughout the Northwest!
